AND TWO GENTLEMEN IN SUITS STOOD IN FRONT OF MY DOOR IN SILENCE.
I SURPRISED THEM, I SAID HELLO TO THEM, ONE OF THEM SAID HELLO TO ME AND THEY DID NOT TALK ANYMORE.
THE TRUTH THAT THIS MISSED ME ENOUGH.

For astronomer José María Madiedo, “the only thing that can explain it is ball lightning.” It is a kind of disaster box that refers to phenomena with similar characteristics, but with different behavior. There are 3,000 recorded cases since the 17th century. Most, during a storm, although it is also possible that this type of luminaries arise in favorable weather conditions, such as those that existed when this UFO incident occurred.
In any case, it is different from conventional rays. Ball lightning can travel much more slowly. “Like a balloon.” There is no scientific consensus about what exactly they are. The difficulties involved in investigating this type of phenomenon, irreproducible, makes it impossible to determine its origin. “You don’t even know what’s inside,” says astrophysicist José María Madiedo: “It could be plasma, a chemical reaction… There is no satisfactory explanation.”
Nor a conclusion about its effects. Ball lightning can discharge all its energy when it comes into contact with some type of object, although it can also vanish, pass through solid bodies or even impact without leaving any trace of ignition, as would be the case with Cogollos de Guadix, in which no burned remains can be seen on the roof of the house where the UFO hit.

“Although each discharge behaves differently, if what has fallen in Cogollos is lightning, something must have burned,” says a retired worker from Sevillana, who knows this municipality and its surroundings, and recalls that in Cogollos there are history of similar incidents due to ball lightning in the same area where the unidentified object impacted. Like that lightning strike that years before, in that precise spot, “tore apart” a tree.
The most recent took place in the 1990s, a few meters from the affected house, on the road that connects Cogollos de Guadix with the municipality of Jerez del Marquesado, where a neighbor whom everyone knew as Antonio “El Cano” received the discharge of a “whirlwind” lightning that he survived despite the burns it caused him. The testimonies of sightings of luminaries have flourished in recent days.
